Item RG190001: Energy is transferred when warmer air moves from one place to another and when a person listens to music on a radio.
Consider the following situations:
Situation 1: Warmer air moves from one place to another.
Situation 2: A person listens to music on a radio.
Is energy being transferred in either of these situations?
- Energy is transferred in both situations.
- Energy is NOT transferred in either situation.
- Energy is transferred in Situation 1, but energy is NOT transferred in Situation 2.
- Energy is transferred in Situation 2, but energy is NOT transferred in Situation 1.

- Disciplinary Core Ideas
- PS3.A Energy can be moved from place to place by moving objects or through sound, light, or electric currents.
- NRC Framework
- PS3.B. Heating is another process for transferring energy. Heat transfer occurs when two objects or systems are at different temperatures. Energy moves out of higher temperature objects and into lower temperature ones, cooling the former and heating the latter. This transfer happens in three different ways—by conduction within solids, by the flow of liquid or gas (convection), and by radiation, which can travel across space.
